Many creative professionals dream of creating work that will be the next hot fashion item, designer chair, or cartoon character that appears on everything from T-shirts to coffee mugs. Before these visions can make their way to the market, designers need to consider elementary protections to insure that they are properly compensated for their creations. The basic forms of protection are copyright, patent and, in some specialized situations, trademark.

This seminar is intended to give you an overview of how to protect and licenseyour work. It will explain each type of protection, how they differ from one another, and which may be the most appropriate course of action for you to take. It will deal predominently with visual and written works and not with music or performance.
